Mexico Agriculture

Mexican traditional agriculture has suffered from the opening of borders. The production of cotton and sugar has decreased after the drop in prices. Nevertheless, the farming sector did grow in 1999 with a 6% increase for the firts two quarters' performance.

The areas under cultivation include arable lands and those with permanent crops. They represent 27,300,000 hectares in Mexico.
